ABOUT JAYME
“When I read The Diary of Anne Frank in seventh grade, I was hooked—I knew I wanted to write. I understood that compelling words touched hearts and changed lives, and even a teenager could answer that call. Beyond the passion for writing, I delighted in a relationship with God and carried a message of hope in Jesus Christ.”
Writing is still the passion of Jayme Durant’s life. Today she is a freelance writer and editor. She has ghostwritten and developmentally edited books for Brown Books Publishing Group. Jayme’s articles have appeared in Christianity Today International’s Today’s Christian, Focus on the Family’s Pastor’s Family Magazine, Special Family Magazine, and other publications. In addition, she wrote for Woman’s Day. Her monthly homeschooling column appeared in a DFW publication for two years.
Jayme is on the leadership team for the Dallas Christian Writers Guild, and she is co-founder of the Denton Christian Writers Guild. She also enjoys writing with her Writers in the Storm cohorts and is a member of American Christian Fiction Writers (ACFW).
“Building relationships with my students was the highlight of my experience as a public school teacher—each teen graduated with a piece of my heart.” Jayme now privately teaches and tutors high school and college students in writing; some of these students garnered recognition and praise for exceptional writing skills at the college level (including Rhodes, Truman, Marshall, and Rotary scholarship nominations).
Her resume includes service as an administrator for Enrichment Classes, Inc. (DFW area homeschooling organization), an advisory board member of Special Family ministries, a media spokesperson for the Denton Area Life Chain, and the president of Denton County Home School Association, one of the largest homeschooling organizations in the country. Jayme’s past involvement in small group ministries at Denton Bible Church include marriage/family small group leadership and overseer roles with Rodney, her husband of twenty-six years. Jayme has been a guest speaker for other events/forums including Easter Seals, North Central Texas Epilepsy Association, homeschooling organizations, and DFW area churches.
Interesting Trivia Tidbit: Jayme is a former Dallas radio talk show host—“Saturday Afternoon with Jayme.” Notable guests included Keith Green, Dallas Holm, and Jimmy Draper; she also emceed concerts for Amy Grant, Truth, the Imperials, and others. She was heavily involved in promotions and marketing.
“My biggest accomplishments, however, aren’t heralded in medals or trophies—even though I’m still kind of proud that I won the Turkey Trot three years in a row—my highest honors are displayed in the lives of my amazing children. I’m privileged to be the mother of Karis, Bethany, Caleb, and Grace.”
